Braun Satin Hair 7: Professional SensoDryer

As a girl with long hair, and lots of it, washing and drying my hair is a lengthy process - particularly the latter. More often than not, I find myself turning up to lectures with wet hair - even after blow drying for as long as I can before rushing out the door. In the winter, this really isn't ideal. I decided to finally upgrade to a high-tech hair dryer, to see if it really does make a difference, and I chose the Braun Satin Hair 7 Professional Sensodryer. Braun are my favourite brand when it comes to beauty electricals and this hair dryer didn't disappoint. Read on to learn about all the features of this handy gadget.

As you can see from the photos, the design of the dryer is really sleek and sophisticated. I love the combination of the glossy black with the matte grey - it's definitely the type of dryer you would find in a hair salon. You can tell from the weight of the item that's it's sturdy and high quality, but don't worry - it's light enough for you to be able to use it without getting an achey arm! In terms of holding the dryer, you can hold it conventionally by the handle, but you can also hold the dryer by the barrel itself. The dryer is fitted with a special air cooling system which ensures the barrel remains the cool. This is really useful for when you want to have extra control when drying your hair.

In terms of settings and functions, the SensoDryer offers great flexibility. You can achieve low air flow using setting I and high air flow using setting II. I enjoy using setting II first and then switching to setting I to finish off drying my styled look. You can see these switches at the bottom of the handle.

The buttons above this switch, '+' and '-', allow you to modify the temperature of the air flow. There are a range of settings from 1 (low) to 4 (high) - red LEDs display your choice. My last hairdryer also had a cold air setting and I think this function is hugely beneficial in a hairdryer. I was so pleased to see that you can use either of the two top buttons to turn on the 'cold shot'. Blue LEDs show when you have this setting on. The temperature change is immediate which is really impressive! Cold air is the perfect way to conclude your drying regime and fix your style - I also think it makes my hair feel a lot smoother and hydrated. To add to this level of control that you have over the heat settings, there is also a thermo sensor which adapts the temperature relative to your environment to provide the most suitable setting.

In terms of performance, you can describe this hair dryer in one word: efficient. I can't stress how impressed I was with the speed in which this device was able to dry my hair. I usually have to spend a long time to completely dry my hair - so much that I always put on a programme on iPlayer to keep me amused during the process, but drying my hair took a fraction of the time with the SensoDryer. My boyfriend was equally as impressed - with his short hair this took no time at all. In reading up about the technology, this dryer is 2000 watt, uses an infrared heating system and has a professional AC motor - I imagine these all contribute to the efficiency.

What stood out for me about this dryer is how my hair felt after the drying process. With my previous hair dryers, my hair feels very dehydrated and brittle after I've finished blow-drying and this has led to me piling on the hair product. The SensoDryer keeps my hair having that fresh, soft feeling that you get after washing your hair and it feels so smooth - with no frizz or static! Perfect for styling. According to the manual, this is due to the use of ionic technology - which basically means the dryer emits active ions which integrate between the strands and give perfect heat distribution.

So I've spoken about the drying abilities of this dryer, but it's an essential product for styling too. It comes with two different heads to make styling that bit more effective.

The picture above shows the diffuser and the picture below shows the professional nozzle. I've never actually used a diffuser myself, but it is just what I need. My hair is quite flat and I am always looking for ways to give it some volume. Using this in a circular motion at your scalp gives volume and root lift. Alternatively, you can even use it to make natural waves by guiding your hair around the finger plate.

The styling nozzle can be used in so many different ways. I love using it to help create flawless up-dos, but it's also great for giving you that sleek, straight style.

Finally, this hair dryer is incredibly easy to clean. You can actually twist off the protective filter to clean it seperately - which I haven't been able to do with any of my previous dryers. From my experience, getting hair etc. stuck in the filter has led to the deterioration of my dryers - so I am so thankful that I'll be able to clean this regularly.

If you're someone that loves creating styles with your hair or conversely a person with a busy lifestyle, then I really think you'll enjoy the SensoDryer. It's made my haircare routine a lot more fun, and a lot quicker!

The SensoDryer is available from all major retailers. You can find out more information about it at the Braun website: here
