theBalm Translucent Powder and Lipstick

I love discovering new brands and I've been itching to try some products from 'theBalm' ever since seeing their adorable, vintage-style packaging! I needed a new powder and fancied a new lip colour, so it was the perfect opportunity to see what the 'theBalm' is made of. Read on to see my thoughts on the 'Sexy Mama Anti-Shine Translucent Powder' and 'theBalm Girls Lipstick in Ima Goodkisser'...

Sexy Mama Anti-Shine Translucent Powder

First things first, let's talk appearances. The 'Sexy Mama' powder comes in a cute, magnetised compact with a handy built-in mirror. It's size and secure closing mechanism means it's perfect for taking out and about with you in your bag.

The powder itself is very soft and not at all chalky, which is often my worry when it comes to powders. Upon applying this to your face you can visibly see any shine or oily patches disappearing as tiny 'oil-absorbing spheres' present in the powder go to work. What really impresses me with this powder is that you can't go overboard with it - with some powders I actually end up with dry patches because all of the moisture has been stripped away. With the 'Sexy Mama' it's clear it is just focusing on oil and with excessive use you're not going to end up with cake-iness or dryness.

The powder comes in one shade because it is a translucent powder - it's not going to do anything for you in terms of coverage, but it will mattify your face like a dream. A big thumbs up from me

theBalm Girls Lipstick: Ima Goodkisser

I've had my eyes on these lipsticks for a while... The range is called 'theBalm Girls' and each lipstick is cleverly named after a different character.

I chose 'Ima Goodkisser' - a pinky, coral shade with subtle shimmer. I wanted something to put me in the mood for the spring and summer months ahead - and this is perfect for that! The lipstick, itself, comes in a sleek silver bullet packaging to go along with the 'spy' theme. The packaging feels like it's really good quality - not cheap at all.

The lipstick formula is fantastic! I was really impressed. It's creamy enough to be moisturising, but not so oily that it comes off as soon as you eat/drink. For a lipstick, this wears really well. It's pigmented and will remain on my lips for around 4 hours if I haven't eaten in that time. The formula also contains natural conditioners, vitamins and peppermint oil to give your lips a cooling feel. I love mint lip products, but I know some people don't enjoy the accompanying 'tingle'. Even if you're one of these people, you'll still get on fine with this lipstick - I don't think there is enough peppermint to give you the tingling sensation, but enough to simply refresh your lips.

'theBalm' actually give you swatches on the website of all of these lipstick shades which is so useful for ordering online! As you can see from the picture, the shade is a lovely blush-coloured coral, pink. It does have shimmer, but it's subtle enough that you shouldn't be put off by it. It honestly just gives a bit of highlight to your lips when the light hits them. One thing that I would advise is to make sure you lips are smooth and hydrated before using as the shimmer might accentuate any cracking or lines.

I was really impressed with both products and can't wait to try more. Let me know if you have any suggestions of your favourite makeup from 'theBalm'!
