Astral Face and Body Moisturiser

When it comes to skincare, I'm always on the look out for a 'holy grail' moisturiser. Sure, I love using those luscious body butters and those perfumed oils - but sometimes, you just need a tried-and-true method to give your skin some intense nourishment and moisture. Astral is one such product that has been around for over 60 years and I've recently discovered it. Read on to hear all about my thoughts on this affordable, highly effective cream...
As I mentioned earlier, the Astral company has been around for decades and for good reason... People love their moisturisers. Their website displays plenty of quotations from both women and men who have been using the cream religiously for years and years - just reading through them made me so curious to find out what all the fuss was about!

To my amazement, the brand makes no sensational claims about the effect their moisturiser will have... which is actually pretty refreshing for a skin care brand! In fact, they stress that they do not use these so-called 'miracle ingredients'. Instead, they use a select few, trusted, quality ingredients that are proven to be effective and are suitable for all skin types. For example, I've been trying out Astral Original and the main ingredients are lanolin and glycerine. If you're a skincare buff then you'll know these names well: lanolin is a naturally-occurring moisturiser that works to lock in moisture, whilst glycerine attracts water into the epidermis of your skin (the surface layer).

So just from reading about the product, I'm sure you'll agree it sounds promising... But how well did it perform?

I've now been using Astral Original for about three weeks and I have to say, I'm a big fan. The texture is just so smooth, soft and creamy that it is a dream to rub into your skin. It really has that luxurious feel to it. The hydration is not only immediate, but it's also long-lasting. We've been having awful stormy weather over the past couple of weeks here in England and this cream has worked wonders on protecting my face from the harsh winds which normally dry me out.
In terms of how it works with make-up, you'll have no problems. Although it is quite a thick formula, it sinks in easily without leaving a greasy residue. In fact, it's an ideal primer - I like layering it on a little thicker in the mornings before going in with foundation. My foundation still stays all day and the cream also stops my foundation from flaking as the skin underneath doesn't dry out.

As the name says, it's both a face and body moisturiser - so you can use it wherever. My favourite way to use it is at night on my feet. My feet are always drying out and the skin is always cracking - so I've started layering on the Astral and then popping my feet in some cosy socks each night. I've massively noticed the difference - my feet feel soft and supple.

If you look on their website, you'll find that people have found so many uses for the cream. I read that some ladies use it as a make-up remover, some as an after-sun treatment and even some just to provide anti-static for tights!

Lastly, I'd just like to comment on the price. Skincare can be so expensive - but Astral is fantastically affordable! I've been trying out the 50ml handbag version of Astral Original - this is a mere £1.29 on the Superdrug website!

Astral is definitely my new go-to whenever I need some intense hydration with a luxury feel. If you're at all interested, then definitely check out their website: here.
In the UK you can currently buy Astral at all good chemists, Superdrug, Boots, Wilkinsons, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Tesco and Asda.
